A The department of the University of Oxford has been criticized by an invitation of "sexist" alumni by former and current students after saying that "partners and wives" were welcome at an event.
The Materials Department issued an email announcing a dinner for alumni, adding: "Partners and wives are welcome."
Oxford Materials alumnus, Dr. Anna Ploszajski, noted that the department did not mention if husbands were also welcome and tweeted: "Um @OxfordMaterials, in what universe is it acceptable to say" Partners and wives are welcome "in an invitation ? #EverydaySexism. "
This provoked outrage and criticism from other scientists on Twitter.
