DETROIT (WXYZ) – A ruptured gas pipeline was reported on the campus of Wayne State University in Detroit, they say The authorities. Police say that the entire campus is closed and classes are canceled.
A construction team working on the road in Second and Warren hit an underground gas pipeline. The smell and sound of natural gas escaping is strong in the Gullen Mall area on campus, authorities say.
Students, staff and faculty are urged to avoid the area until further notice. Warren Avenue is closed between Cass Avenue and Anthony Wayne Drive.
All residential buildings on campus are being evacuated. The evacuation site for campus residents is Matthaei Physical Education Center. University Towers will remain open.
