"North section to be rehabbed for a student impact and engagement center with career guidance, placement labor, videoconferencing and related offices, while existing library and dining room operations will be rehabilitated for greater accessibility, "explained the Development Department.
According to Michell Ball, executive director of strategic marketing and communications at Muskingum University, the renovations will be completed in two phases through 2023.
The project includes renovations in the Bait Shop food service area, as well as accessibility improvements.
An elevator will be added to the building to access the building's offices, the bookstore, and the upper-level Impact Center.
An Accessible restrooms will be added to existing restrooms on the lower level of the Quad Center.
The second phase of the project includes renovations in the space for the creation of an Impact Center.
"The Impact Center will provide comprehensive career preparation for students from their first day on campus through graduation, including exploring and gaining experiential learning opportunities and community partnership," said Bell. .
Parts of the first phase, including the improvements to the Bait Shop canteen, are in operation.
Bells said the remaining part of that phase will be completed this winter.
The project is funded by a number of sources, including a federal Title III Institution Building Grant from the US Department of Education and a partnership with dining room service provider Aramark.
According to Bell, third-party developers are also partnering with Muskingum for the balance of the project cost.
"The developers will receive the tax credits as part of their investment," he said. "Tax credits are intended to encourage investments like this in projects to renovate historic structures."
