Vince Young was fired from a part-time job at the University of Texas for underperformance

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) – Texas fired the former star quarterback Vince Young from his part-time role as a development officer for poor performance and is often absent from work or not in contact with his supervisors.

The move also occurs after Young had a second DUI arrest within three years on February 4.

The March 1 dismissal letter from Young says he was fired "for failing to demonstrate significant and sustained improvement in the performance of (his) job responsibilities and failure to maintain appropriate standards of behavior and acceptable for the university. " He has been given labor warnings since 2017.

The Associated Press obtained the letter and file from Young's staff through an application for open records.

Young declined to comment on Saturday. His file included several good performance reviews and a February letter from Young that said he had done a good job for the school's relationships with donors.
