The Vice Chancellor of the University of Jadavpur Suranjan Das criticized the professor for his misogynistic comments has "sullied" the image of the institution.

Kanak Sarkar compared a virgin woman with a "sealed bottle" or "package" in a Facebook post on Sunday . Later he eliminated the message and justified the action in another post that demanded freedom of expression.

The National Commission for Women asked the West Bengal police chief to investigate the incident and take action. The Women's Commission of West Bengal also requested an explanation from Kanak Sarkar.
