DURHAM, NC – Duke University says that someone wrote a racist insult on a sign in a campus building dedicated to black culture.
The president of the university Vincent Price sent an email to students on Saturday saying that an "atrocious racial epithet" was found and immediately covered on a sign at the Mary Lou Williams Center for Black Culture.
Price called it a cowardly and hateful act and said it was important for the university to recognize such an odious act and defy it.
The university says that officers are investigating the incident. The center was founded in 1983.
