The two universities officially launched the collaboration on Monday night. Purdue president Mitch Daniels even welcomed the other university leaders in Spanish.

The members of the faculty of the National University of San Agustín will work with professors and researchers in Purdue. They will work on research related to environmental health, including food safety and water quality.

"What we are doing there with the university in Peru translates into our own region here in Indiana: to improve agricultural production, improve the overall environmental management of our resources," said Tomás Díaz de la Rubia, chief scientist and executive director at Discovery Park.

The agreement is currently established for three years of work. However, leaders expect work and projects to expand.
