Oakland University School trained to use hockey pucks to thwart

AUBURN HILLS, Michigan –

Faculty members at the University of Oakland in the suburbs of Detroit have received hockey pucks and are being trained to use them to potentially thwart active shooters.

WDIV-TV reports that the American Association of University Professors distributed records to its 800 members.

The university's police chief, Mark Gordon, says that to fight effectively, teachers and students must be prepared to throw heavy objects that will cause a distraction. Gordon says that the discs fit perfectly and can be carried comfortably in briefcases or backpacks.

The teachers' union is also working with groups of students to distribute 1,700 additional discs to students
