Lubbock Christian University Athletics – LCU History: Taking a look at December 7

December 7 – We take a look at some of the best moments LCU athletics throughout the years beginning December 7. Pictured is Tess Bruffey, who helped bring down LCU women's basketball with Southwest Oklahoma's No. 14 inside the Rip Griffin Center in 2017 on this date.

Men's basketball

<figcaption> Chennault </figcaption></figure><ul><li> The Chaps jumped to a 10-0 lead and were up 33-14 at halftime in a 1982 win over McMurry that ended with Lubbock Christian leading 71 -48. Harold Jones was the LCU's leading scorer with 17 points.</li><li> Tony Chennault scored 11 first-half points en route to 15 overall when the Chaps defeated Western State (Colo.) 74-59 in the 1985 Eastern New Mexico Sunshine Classic.</li><li> Five different LCU players finished in double figures, led by Matt Rawls with 19 when the Chaps defeated Mid-America Christian 94-63 in 2002.</li><li> Bernardo Rocha scored 15 and Chaps beat Wayland Baptist 77-63 in 2006, despite being eliminated on field goals.</li></ul><p>
<strong> Girls Basketball </strong></p><ul><li> The Lady Chaps earned a victory in their first 1982 NAIA District 8 game, defeating McMurry 72-64 inside LCU Fieldhouse.</li><li> Krista Lent registered 10 points and 10 assists for a double-double, and LCU opened the first round of the 1990 Panhandle State Classic with a 67-65 victory over Howard Payne in Goodwell, Oklahoma. Along with Lent's performance, LCU also received 15 points and 7 rebounds from Suzanne Copeland and 12 points each from Carol Hise and Sherry Cate.</li><li> LCU defeated McMurry again in 1996, sweeping the McMurry Tournament in Abilene, Texas. One night after beating Hardin-Simmons, the Lady Chaps defeated McM 74-55.</li><li> In 2002, Colorado State-Pueblo took a trip to the Rip Griffin Center, where LCU defeated the ThunderWolves 90-82. <br

Sierra Lovorn led LCU with 17 points and Kim Lloyd contributed 15 points.</li><li> Nicole Hampton set a career-high with 31 points and added 11 rebounds to complete her 27th career double-double and LCU improved her winning streak to six games with an 84-65 win in the Heartland Conference over Rogers State in 2013 in Claremore Expo Center. The victory came within 24 hours of winning at Fort Smith, Ark. And from riding the bus in the winter storm to Claremore, Oklahoma.
