Lubbock Christian University Athletics – LCU History: A Look at December 31

December 31 – We take a look at some of the best athletic moments LCU over the years since December 31. Pictured is Emily Pool, who scored 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead the No. 17 Lady Chaparrals to a road victory at the No. 15 Southern Nazarene in 2011 on this date.

Men's basketball

Mark Peters made a steal on Toro's possession to ensure victory.</li><li> Max Eding scored 23 points in just 28 minutes on the court in 2005 when Lubbock Christian defeated Adams State 72-61.</li><li> In 2020, LCU's Rip Griffin Center hosted the University of New Mexico's first “home game” when they faced Nevada. New Mexico partnered with LCU to have the Rip Griffin Center serve as a temporary home for Lobos men's basketball during the 2020-21 season due to COVID-19 sanctions in the Land of Enchantment.</li></ul><p>
<strong> Women's Basketball </strong></p><ul><li> LCU's first New Years Eve game was in 2002, when LCU ventured to Las Vegas, New Mexico and defeated New Mexico Highlands 82-57.</li><li> No. 15 LCU held Dallas Christian College to just three field goals each half as they received points from 13 different players and tied a rebound mark in a single game of the program with 14 different players combined for 73 rebounds in the road to a landslide 110-23 victory at Abilene Christian University's Moody Coliseum in 2009.</li><li> In 2011, the 17th LCU received a double-double from Emily Pool (career-high 20 points and 12 rebounds) and used a quick offensive start to defeat the 15th Southern Nazarene 81-64 inside the Sawyer Center ( Bethany, Okla.).</li><li> LCU posted season highs in points, rebounds and steals en route to a 96-51 victory over Oklahoma Panhandle State behind Haley Fowler and Allison Szabo's 18 points to tie their career-high 12 rebounds inside the Rip Griffin Center in 2015. Kelsey Hoppel and Tess Bruffey each had 15 points to aid in offensive production.</li><li> LCU opened the second half with an 18-3 run and Bobbi Chitsey led the Lady Chaparrals with 14 points as they improved to 5-2 all-time in New Year's Eve games in 2018 by defeating eastern New Mexico 64 -48 in a New Year's Eve contest inside the Rip Griffin Center.</li></ul></div>
