Governor Baker announces a grant for cybersecurity programs at Bay Path University

Longmeadow, Massachusetts (WWLP) – Gov. Charlie Baker came to the University of Bay Path on Tuesday afternoon. It was the first time that a Massachusetts governor visited Bay Path University.

Gob. Baker's visit included visits to the university's life science labs that have new equipment that was purchased through state grants. The governor then announced more than $ 250,000 in state funds to boost the school's cybersecurity program.

"Sometimes they do not have the staff to perform audits and our students will get practical experiences," said the Bay Path president. Carol Leary told 22News. "Receiving that scholarship was extraordinary for Bay Path and we are grateful for our governor."

Leary also told 22News that the MassTech Collaboration Scholarship will provide 30 undergraduate and graduate cybersecurity students with internships in small and medium businesses. The state grant helps address a growing cybersecurity job crisis here in Massachusetts.
