Four with ties from the University of Minnesota receive awards on the Day of Girls and Women in Sport

Four people associated with the University of Minnesota received awards at the 33rd annual Minnesota Girls and Women in Sports Day on Wednesday at the Minnesota History Center.

The honorees were Chris Howell former female basketball player of Gophers Angie Iverson-Ohnstad and Nicole La Koye , 19449004 The Tucker Center.

Howell, who received the Breaking Barriers Award, is in her 32nd year in college and 22nd in sports management, where she provides daily support to the executive director associate of sports, organizes the main projects for the department and manages the trips for

Iverson-Ohnstad earned his award for Breaking Barriers in Lakeville women's basketball coach for the past 13 years. She has been the head coach of Lakeville South since 2011-12.

The Tucker Center for Research on Girls and Women in Sport, located on campus, received the Legacy Award. He has been investigating and educating people across the country about the importance of girls and women not only competing in sports, but training and participating in sports at all levels

3 swimmers U honored

Senior Chantal Nack won her first swimmer of the week award at Big Ten this season, while Bowen Becker and Max McHugh claimed to the swimmer and rookie of the Men's Week Awards.

Nack took first place in three of his four individual events at a three-team meeting at Northwestern, Purdue was the third team, in addition to anchoring the freestyle relay 800 to win (7: 21.68) and lead the victory 400 freestyle relay teams (3: 23.22). The times of the seniors in two events were also fast enough to qualify as B courts in the 200 backstroke (1: 56.55) and the 200 freestyle (1: 46.84).

Becker won the 50 and 100 freestyle races with B cut-off times of 19.83 and 43.24, respectively. McHugh won his seventh freshman of the week award by winning the 100 and the 200 breaststroke events with B cutoff times of 53.57 and 1: 54.72, respectively.

Delanie Cox of Aurora, Colorado, signed with the Gophers softball team. The National Fast Track Coaches Association named her on her All-America team and was chosen twice throughout the state in Colorado.
