Anne-Marie Slaughter, Executive Director of New America, Joins Arizona State University

Slaughter's ASU course, taught in conjunction with Gordon LaForge Principal Investigator at Princeton University and Professor at Thunderbird, will examine the role and design of networks in global affairs with this premise: "We live in a world of nation-states, but also in an era of networks, creating a network of obvious connectivity on the Internet, the COVID-19 pandemic, air travel, global supply chains, international NGOs, terrorists and other criminal networks. and interdependent financial markets. She is also the Bert G. Kerstetter '66 Professor Emeritus of Politics and International Affairs at Princeton University . After serving as the first director of policy planning for the U.S. Department of State from 2009 to 2011, she received the Secretary's Distinguished Service Award for her work leading the Quadrennial Diplomacy and Development Review, as well as awards for meritorious service of USAID and Supreme Allied Commander Europe . Prior to her government service, Slaughter was Dean of the School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University (formerly Woodrow Wilson School) from 2002 to 2009 and the J. Sinclair Armstrong Professor of International, Foreign and Comparative. Law at Harvard Law School from 1994 to 2002.
